The July 2005 newsletter contains a wee error.

Here's a resource with more background -- Mars Spectacular

Cool

Thanks Rudy. We caught the error - see the end of the article (pg. 4) where we point out this is another internet hoax.

page 4? all i see is this --
Quote:
By the end of August when the two planets are closest - Mars will rise at nightfall & reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30am.

That's pretty convenient to see something that no human being has seen in recorded history. So - mark your calendar at the beginning of August to see Mars grow progressively brighter & brighter throughout the month.

NO ONE ALIVE TODAY WILL EVER SEE THIS AGAIN...!!!
where's the hoax part? some other page?

Sorry... I''m late in relaying this to you. The ACTUAL closest approach of Mars and Earth was in 2003. This cycle happens about every 2 years at which time the internet bursts forth again with the "most spectacular event" e-mails again. While this was absolutely true in 2003, the "closest" point in the 2-year cycle is now getting farther apart than it was in 2003. In that year, it was at real "closest" point in 60,000 years.

Now... we'll just have to wait...
